This fabulous 'Food and Farming Week' the Puffins were lucky enough to receive a visit from local farmer Mr Kermeen, along with four of his beautiful calves! The children were utterly delighted to meet the four furry babies on the playground, two of which were of the Brown Swiss variety, and two of which were Viking Red. Mr Kermeen answered questions that the Puffins had prepared, and told us all about his life as a farmer, and how he looks after all the cows and calves on his farm. It truly was a special afternoon, and we are super grateful to Mr Kermeen for bringing his gorgeous calves to us (two of which were only a day old!) and for sharing his exceptional knowledge with the children. Thank you so much!
This wonderful visit was alongside week-long learning all about the production of food on the Island, and its farming traditions. We based our learning on short and fascinating films created locally by Culture Vannin, entitled 'Field to Carton', 'Milling Wheat to Bread', 'Organic Farming', and 'The Tractor'.
We hope you enjoy the photos of our special visit as much as we enjoyed meeting the adorable, beautiful beasts ...
