On Thursday 8th January, the children of Years 5 and 6 visited the Legislative Buildings in Douglas as part of a government initiative designed to help young people understand the law-making process in the Isle of Man. The children enjoyed a fact-filled tour of the building, including visits to the Tynwald Debating Chamber and the Legislative Council Chamber.
The visit concluded with a lively mock debate in the Tynwald Chamber, where the motion to “pay primary school children for attending school” was ultimately rejected by 15 votes to 9. The children did Foxdale School proud, with the guide commenting that it was one of the best debates they had ever seen.
Thank you to Suzanne at the Legislative Buildings for organising the visit and sharing a wealth of interesting information, and to Tim Crookall for taking time out of his busy day to speak with the children as their local representative.
