One of our guided reading groups read about a snail in their book, this led to a discussion about snails which inspired the children into doing some independent research about them. Even children who weren't in the guided reading group were clamouring to take part. Provided they handed in a piece of research they were eligible to take part in our Cornelly class Snail Race. We have all learnt lots about these fascinating creatures and the class spent the whole playtime watching the race - which was surprisingly very exciting. We had two races one for the African Land Snails and one for the garden snails. Some of the snails went to visit Beckwiths class who were looking at different types of animals.
